Point of Reality

Canonical Definition

Point of Reality is a Spiral Civilization concept describing the current state of reality, recognized as precisely as possible, from which observation, decision, intervention, and navigation begin.

Expanded Entry

Before asking what should happen next, we need to ask: Where are we now?

A Point of Reality is not merely a location in space or a moment in time. It is a multidimensional representation of the present configuration and may include:

elements → relationships → conditions → constraints → resources → knowledge → uncertainties → possibilities → trajectories

Its purpose is not to create a complete description of reality. It is to establish a sufficiently accurate starting point from which meaningful action can be considered. The Point of Reality is therefore always provisional.

ACTION → CHANGED REALITY → NEW POINT OF REALITY → RECOGNITION → UPDATED POSSIBILITY FIELD → NEXT NAVIGATION

The Point of Reality is closely connected with the Point of Observation, but they are not the same.

Point of Reality: What is the current configuration?
Point of Observation: From where — and as whom — is this configuration being perceived?

A useful working formulation is:

Point of Reality + Point of Observation = basis for recognition

The Point of Reality is also the starting point for Best Possible. The Best Possible cannot be meaningfully evaluated in abstraction; it must be asked in relation to a specific present configuration.

POINT OF REALITY → POSSIBILITY FIELD → INTERVENTIONS → TRAJECTORIES → PROBABILITY CHANGE → NEW POINT OF REALITY

Its central discipline is: Recognize reality as it is now — precisely enough to discover what it can become next.
